Starting Thursday, Sept. 17, at 3:30 p.m. PT/10:30 p.m. GMT, you can watch the 2020 CrossFit games through a live stream hosted by CrossFit on Games.CrossFit.com.
Unfortunately, due to the format this year there will be no live streaming of the action as it plays out, so you may not get to see Fraser or Toomey crushing the competition in real time.
However, guests from around CrossFit’s global community will join the pair throughout the weekend and no doubt there will be some familiar faces in there too. Recordings of the athletes’ full workouts and additional coverage will be released throughout the weekend as per CrossFit.com guidance.
You can watch the CrossFit Games 2020 coverage on the CrossFit Games website or through the CrossFit Games Facebook, Games Instagram, or the new CrossFit Games YouTube account to stay up to date on all games info and updates.
HOW WILL THE CrossFit GAMES WORK In 2020?
As many of you already know, the 2020 Reebok CrossFit Games will take place in two stages: 1) an online competition in athletes’ home countries from which the top five men and top five women will advance and 2) an in-person finals in California to compete for the titles of Fittest Man and Fittest Woman on Earth.
STAGE ONE COMPETITION FORMAT
For the first time, the final stage of the CrossFit Games will begin in CrossFit affiliates around the world. The top 20 women and top 20 men from the Open leaderboard along with the 10 women’s and 10 men’s qualifiers from Sanctionals will compete in a virtual competition beginning Friday, Sept. 18.
Each event can be performed only one time. Once an athlete finishes an event, they may not attempt it again. There are no restarts. The workout must continue to completion once the timer begins.
It is useful to note that these will not be live streamed but details on the events will be released through the CrossFit games websites and live stream.
More than $500K in prize money is on the line for athletes placing in 20th through sixth place in stage one.
The top five men and top five women will advance to compete in person for up to US$1.3 million, with the Fittest Man on Earth and Fittest Woman on Earth earning US$300K each.
What are the CrossFit Games 2020 Events in Stage One?
Only 14 hours ago, Dave Castro, Director of the CrossFit Games 2020 released this on his Instagram Account.
This details a good portion of the events in the Stage One of the 2020 CrossFit Games. We all know Castro has a tendency to release snippets of the games programming beforehand and this post is no difference. There are many speculations as to what the letters are but there is no argument as to the girls.
We think this is weightlifting so we may see another clean, clean+jerk or snatch event as we have seen in many other CrossFit Games Beforehand.
We think this may be another metcon or conditioning workout so many a run or longer distance/time domain workout.
5 rounds for time
15 overhead squats
Again, we think this could be gymnastics so maybe a handstand or muscle up workout (30 muscle ups for time is a fan favourite here).
50-40-30-20-10 Reps for time
We could see that all workouts at the CrossFit games are benchmark workouts. This would be a really exciting way to start the games, it helps with judging as all movements are known and have an easy standard and exciting for the spectators.
However we all know that Castro never reveals all and may have a few extra plans for the CrossFit Games 2020 so we will see...
