2021 CrossFit Games: What We Know

Following on from the hectic 2020 season, here is what we know about the 2021 CrossFit games with events, workouts, how to watch and more.



What we know about the 2021 CrossFit Games?


The 2021 NOBULL CrossFit Games will take place in Madison, Wisconsin, from July 27 through Aug. 1. The fittest men, women, teams, teenagers, and masters who emerged from the first stages of the season will leave it all on the floor for a chance to earn the title of Fittest on Earth.

Tune in to the CrossFit Games YouTube, Facebook page, Twitch, and Pluto TV for full coverage of the individual and team competitions, and select coverage of the masters, teenagers, and adaptive competitions.


Watch on CBS


The CrossFit Games will return to the CBS Sports Network in 2021. Coverage will run from Thursday, July 29, through Sunday, Aug. 1, from 11 p.m.-12 a.m. ET.

A live, two-hour broadcast of the individual finals will air on the CBS Television Network on Sunday, Aug. 1, from 2-4 p.m. ET.

With the retirement of Mat Fraser, the mens individual competition is wide open for the previous years outliers to make their moves.


2021 CrossFit Games Cut Schedule


With previous years there was uproar about the cuts with many being cut because of miliseconds on the sprint event. This year the cut schedule is different, CrossFit shared an explanation below:


The cut schedule: There are 15 total events for individual athletes. Based on that, it seems likely that the first cut to 30 will take place after events seven or eight.

  • Wednesday through Friday: 40 athletes (Cut to 30)

  • Saturday Event 1: Top 30 athletes (Cut to 20)

  • Saturday Event 2: Top 20 athletes

  • Sunday: Top 20 athletes

CrossFit Games 2021 Workouts

We do know that there will be 15 total events for individual athletes from Wednesday to Sunday and some have been leaked through Instagram and various social media channels.

What we do know is this:

  • YOU CAN NOW BUY TICKETS TO THE 2021 CROSSFIT GAMES - As of 22nd February, 2021 CrossFit Games tickets are now on sale. Tickets are being managed by Ticketmaster and you can buy them on the CrossFit Games Ticketmaster site.

  • The 2021 CrossFit Games Rulebook has been released - Giving a full insight into the rules and regulations for the Games

  • The Entry Format changes - So the entry format for the games has changed again with athletes able to qualify through the Open which then athletes can compete in the quarterfinals (which will be run through local gyms, then those qualified will attend 10 in-person semifinal events to crown those who go to the games. There is also a last chance qualifier for athletes who narrowly miss the cut in the semis too. This is reflective of the original regional format from way back when.

  • The 2021 CrossFit Games Dates Have Been Released - Get it in your diary as the official competition dates have been released for the 2021 CrossFit Games. This year's competition will take place Tuesday, July 27 through Sunday, Aug. 1.

  • The Affiliate Cup Returns - After a hiatus in 2020 due to COVID restrictions, the 2021 CrossFit Games will see the return of the Affiliate Cup to see the best and fittest teams from around the world.

  • Mat Fraser will not compete - Unless you've been living under a rock, you will have seen that 5 times fittest man on earth, Mat Fraser has retired and won't be competing in the 2021 Open or Games

How to watch the 2021 CrossFit Games?


As with many other years prior, we expect that the 2021 CrossFit Games will be streamed through their Facebook and YouTube channels.


We also know that CrossFit have released pre-sale Affiliate tickets. The affiliate ticket pre-sale has started and will last until 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 21, 2021. Affiliates that have one or more athletes sign up for the 2021 Open will get early access to the ticketing website, Ticketmaster, where they’ll be able to purchase up to eight Festival + Coliseum .


As of the 22nd February 2021 CrossFit Games tickets are on sale to the public. This year tickets are being managed through the CrossFit Games Ticketmaster site so check them out to get your tickets!



What is the 2021 CrossFit Games format?


We are lucky enough to know that the 2021 CrossFit Games will include a multi day, in-person competition in Maddison, WC the current home of the Games.

What are the 2021 CrossFit Games Workouts?


As with every other CrossFit Games, we know that Dave Castro will keep his cards very close to his chest when revealing the 2021 CrossFit Games Workouts. We will share every detail when we know the workouts or format.


What we do know is that we will likely see another multi day event from Tuesday to Sunday, with a typical longer event utilising the grounds and lake too.
